Grapevine

John Grubbs’ Best Folk Band shot

Dear friends,

By now, most of you have probably heard through the grapevine that the Hudsons are hangin’ it up.

It’s been an amazing adventure.  And the best part has been all the folks that we’ve met along the way.  A hearty thanks to all the people who have nurtured and supported us over the last eight years.  Thanks for coming to our shows, buying our CDs, telling your friends about us, letting us sleep on your floor, voting for us, feeding us, loving us, etc.  Without y’all this would never have been possible.

We will be playing all of the shows that we currently have on the calendar including the US/Canada tour at the end of the summer.  Hope you can join us at a show at some point and help us go out with a bang.

Peace,

B and Hud

South By South Fun!

the-hudsons-best-folk-band-plaque.jpg

Well Hudsonitos…

Thanks to your votes, we won Austin’s best folk band once again!  They gave us a beautiful commemorative plaque.  Now, in order to thank y’all, we’ve created a virtual version of this plaque for your computer desktops!  Just right click the above image and select “Set As Desktop Background.”  And no offense, but for all you righteous Mac freaks, who insist on paying more for less and buying into a monopolistic system, I don’t know how to help you.

Enjoy, and share in the fun of this auspicious occasion!

Proudly,

Brian

memories of tacos past…

taco pic

Still hard at work on the new Hudsons material. We’ve put together some pretty good demos and enlisted the help of some trusted friends. (Hint: one of them is on the camera side of that taco).

Getting excited about SXSW.  We now have two showcases booked. An unofficial pre-party on Tuesday, March 17th at Threadigill’s South. And then our official at St. David’s Episcopal church on Saturday the 21st.

Hope y’all can make it out to a show soon. We could really use your support right now.

-Hud

Rolling…

So you’ve heard rumblings that there might be  a new Hudsons album coming down the pipe?  Well let me go ahead and confirm the rumors:

There’s a new Hudsons album coming down the pipe.

Writing, recording, arranging, etc…  Looking forward to sharing some new songs with you soon.

Yesterday we received information on our official SXSW showcase.  March 21st at 9PM.  We’re playing at St. David’s Church in downtown Austin.  If you’re going to be in town for the festival we’d love you to join us.

And then there’s the tour.  End of July trough August we’re headed to Canada.  We’ve been accepted to several festivals. And we’ve applied to several others.  Check out the shows page for details.

peace,

hudson

What Happened to Dick Clark?

 Dearest Hudsonitos…

Welcome to our non-physical home.  It’s been a while since the last update to the news section.  In the interim, The Nasty Clan finished its first EP (which we will celebrate at the Mohawk on January 22nd).  I broke my foot.  Hudson and I began our next album.  We celebrated our millionth show as well as our fiftieth anniversary together.  We began working on a tour of the Midwest and Canada for the coming summer.  And shoot, we even payed taxes.  Thanks government.

But the big news motivating this update is that our calendar is up to speed for your scheduling pleasure.  Please visit the shows section to see for yourselves what we’ve got coming down the pipe.  And for all you festival goers, we’re slated to perform at a handful this year: Kerrville Folk Fest, Wildflower Festival (Richardson, TX), Cornstalk Fest (Dunnell, MN), Live from the Rock (Red Rock, ON), House Full of Blues Festival (North Bay, ON).

For everyone who came to support the rebuilding of the Old Quarter in Galveston, thank you.  And bigger thanks to everyone who made the fund-raiser possible: Tim Leatherwood and everyone at Anderson Fair, Ashley Kingsley, Maria Moss, Devon (my dearest), Larry Winters and the folks at KPFT, and of course, all the musicians.  The Old Quarter was destroyed by Hurricane Ike.  However, through a series of musical benefits and help from friends of the Old Quarter, Wrecks Bell has been able to rebuild his historic folk venue.  Go Wrecks!

That’s it y’all…

Brian

Business As Usual

Hello Hudsonitos,

Thanks for stopping by to visit us.  I’ve posted a new story at the forum for your enjoyment.

In other news, we’re playing a not unusual four shows this weekend, so if you’re missing the Huds, we’ll be available to keep you company with a song all weekend long, so long as you’re in the central Texas area.  Also, for those of you who are Leah Zeger fans, she will be joining us Sunday at Gruene Hall.  Plus be sure to go down to Flipnotics on Barton Springs this evening to catch Hudson at a rare solo performance.

Take care y’all,

Brian

Where Is My Mother-F*ckin’ Old Quarter?

Dearest Hudsonitos,

Thanks for paying us a visit.  For your scheduling pleasure, please visit our freshly updated calendar.

Some tough times have befallen a good friend of ours in Galveston.  Wrecks Bell, owner of the famed Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe and namesake of Towns Van Zandt’s “Rex’s Blues”, lost his venue in Galveston to Hurricane Ike.  Wrecks has been a great supporter of ours over the years and we want to send him our deepest thanks for being kind.

We’re going to try and get a benefit together in Houston to raise some dough for the rebuilding of the Old Quarter.  In the mean time, you guys can send your best wishes his way via interweb: wrecks@wt.net.

In other news, this indefatigable folk organization is slated to perform at the Waterloo Ice House (6th and Lamar) this Thursday, as well as the rest of Thursdays in October, just as we have the last decade of Octobers.  John Aillie is hosting us on Eklektikos on Thursday morning at 10:30 AM; tune in to 90.5 or go to kut.org to listen.  It’s been a while since we’ve done anything on KUT, so we’re pretty juiced about it.  Leah Zeger will be joining!

We’re going to be hanging with a freight train-load of folkies at the regional folk alliance this weekend, so we have no weekend shows to announce.

Take care y’all,
Brian

My Morning Jacket

Yo Hudsonitos,

Just got back from seeing My Morning Jacket.  The show was inexplicably excellent.  I could try to describe them.  They rocked.  The songs were beautiful.  The sound was unique yet familiar.  Still these guys have something that goes beyond my words’ ability to sell.  You might do be a little happier if you got to know the music of My Morning Jacket.

And the same goes with the Hudsons.  For the Austin contingency, Waterloo Thursdays are in effect now through September.  6:30pm.  And as always, this show is free.   We’ll also be at the Kerville Wine and Music Festival this Sunday, August 31st.

Peace,

brian

Piles of Success

Dearest Hudsonitos,

Firstly, let us thank you for your interest in our craft.   So in case you were curious regarding this update’s title (Piles of Success), I’ll fill you in.  You see, Hudson and I have our hands in myriad creative buckets.  As we continue in our attempt to craft the perfect song, we keep our horizons broad with other inventive endeavors such as essay-writing, band-naming, and drumming, just to name a few.  Our latest creative engagement is with naming yet-to-be-written self-help books.  I thought the title Piles of Success might inspire someone seeking a sense of purpose on this lonesome earth.  Please feel free to respond to this post with your own self-help book titles.

And please come see our little folk band do its thing in Houston tonight, Austin this week, and Ft. Worth/Denton next weekend.
